Aaron and I knew one another for nigh on 40 years. Although we had not seen one another for a lot of that time, and although I have forgotten many of the people that we were at school with, Aaron was and is simply unforgettable. The gentle voice, the ready smile, the eyes that hid a fierce and determined intelligence. The waspish sense of humour. The unshakeable belief that U2 had never, ever, put a foot wrong. The mop of wavy hair with the curious white patch. And most of all the loyalty to all of his family and friends.
Covid-19 robbed us of our last meeting. Illness caused him to postpone our last planned conversation. We will have that talk one day. Until then, my world will be a poorer one without him in it.
